What FireMap is
FireMap is powered by FireDB. It shows multi-sensor satellite hotspots (VIIRS, MODIS, Copernicus Sentinel-3 SLSTR — many via NASA FIRMS, with Sentinel-3 outside the FIRMS CSV clock), agency fire points (USA / Canada / Europe / Australia), Europe Meteosat MTG FCI heat detections on European points, GeoColor (GOES-East/West, Meteosat, GK2A; Himawari parked), North America smoke (ECCC RDAQA), GFS wind, Burned Areas, GDACS, and Google DeepMind hurricane tracks. A faster European non-FIRMS feed is planned (name and ETA TBD). Browse incidents on FireDB.
Data sources
Agency fire points
- USA Fire Points — agency status (no USFS/InciWeb labels on About).
- Canada Fire Points — agency status; Fire danger rating where shown.
- European Fire Points — agency / TOC status; Meteosat MTG FCI / LSA SAF MTG FRP heat footprints can appear on European points (not the same as Hotspot Cluster).
- Australia Bushfire Points — live (official program name TBD).
Fire of Note
Fire of Note means an agency Fire of Note or, in North America, roughly ~1,000 acres of growth in the last 24 hours. Europe threshold TBD; containment rule TBD.
Status legend also includes Out of Control, Being Held / Under Control, and Out.
Satellite hotspots
- Hotspot clusters / Satellite HotSpot / NASA FIRMS Hotspot — multi-sensor thermal points.
- VIIRS — Suomi NPP, NOAA-20, NOAA-21 (many via FIRMS NRT).
- MODIS — Terra, Aqua (many via FIRMS NRT).
- SLSTR — Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B (Copernicus Sentinel-3 SLSTR; hotspot points confirmed; not in the FIRMS clock sensor list — do not call these FIRMS).
- OLI — Landsat 8/9 — mainly tracks / next-pass on the map.
- Newer detections appear stronger; older ones fade.
Geostationary GeoColor
- GeoColor (Geostationary) — NOAA GOES-East, NOAA GOES-West, EUMETSAT Meteosat, KMA GK2A. Himawari is parked — do not claim live. Time controls scrub recent frames and loop the last few hours.
Wildfire smoke
- Wildfire Smoke Plume / surface PM2.5 — RDAQA, Environment and Climate Change Canada; North America; BETA; hourly.
Wind
- Current and forecast conditions from NOAA’s global GFS model (~22 km).
Burned Areas
- Burned Areas — UI name; upstream product TBD.
Hurricane Tracks
- Source: Google DeepMind cyclone forecast.
GDACS Alerts
Satellite Tracks
- VIIRS — Suomi NPP, NOAA-20, NOAA-21; MODIS — Terra, Aqua; SLSTR — Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B; OLI — Landsat 8, Landsat 9; Hotspot forecast (NA) where shown.
Fire weather
- Fire Weather Index (USA) is based on Copernicus / ECMWF global fire weather forecasts. Canada: Fire danger rating.
Europe (planned)
A faster European feed outside FIRMS is planned; product name and ETA unknown. Live MTG FCI on European points is already on the map and is not that unnamed feed. Do not name EFFIS as a confirmed About point source.
